The Central Coast of NSW was recently declared to be a Region in its own right. It sits between the Greater Sydney Metropolitan area of Sydney and Newcastle/Hunter. Due to its geographical location politicians have long assumed that the residents of the Central Coast could access services in either Sydney or Newcastle. It is becoming clearer that this is an invalid assumption, no more so than for the suffers and families of Huntington's Disease.
It has been said that the Central Coast is approximately the geographical size of the ACT and has a population approximating that of Tasmania. However it does not enjoy the infrastructure and services of either the ACT or Tasmania.
At the time of writing this article it has been very challenging to find out just how many HD suffers and families there are on the Central Coast. However a small but very determined group of people are setting about to create a support action group for HD suffers and their families on the Central Coast.
The group has organised a gala Dinner/dance to be held at the Mingara Club on 18 September. This is going to be a great night with lots of fun and dancing, but also hopefully raising lots of money to be used to support Central Coast HD suffers and their families. Mark this date in your calendars and come along with your family and friends.
