Website Policy

Purpose

Our website policy describes how we want to deliver information over the World Wide Web. Its purpose is to define the standards to be used for design and authoring of our website, and how we intend to achieve those standards.

Aim

Through our website, we aim to provide valuable information to Huntington's families, their carers (in the widest sense) and the general public. By "valuable information" we mean information that is:

Standards

We subscribe to the Health on the Net Foundation (HON) Code of Conduct for Medical and Health Websites.

HealthInsite is the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care "web portal" for Australian health websites. It aims to provide up-to-date and quality-controlled information for Australian health consumers.

The Association is a HealthInsite information partner, and seeks to remain one. HealthInsite partners are organisations such as peak health organisations, government agencies, consumer groups, community agencies and educational and research institutions, which have entered into a deed of agreement to provide information and links for HealthInsite.

Partnership requires that the website conform to the HealthInsite publishing standards. This standard is therefore adopted to guide development of the Association's website. The standards cover the following areas:

  1. Quality of information - qualifications of creators, accuracy, appropriateness for target audience, documentation of source material, clearance procedures.
  2. Authentication - clear and explicit statements of title, creator, publisher and date.
  3. Technical issues - markup and presentation methods, metadata.
  4. Accessibility - catering for a range of user hardware and software and for people with disabilities.

Approved by the Committee, 5 April 2004.
